For those of you who want to take advantage of latest Google OS “Jelly Bean” and make your Galaxy Tab 10.1 (P7510 or P7500 models ONLY) as fast as a quad-core tablet, you can now with the CM10 Jelly Bean ROM.
I was very surprised how much faster (near twice) my Tab 10.1 ran after installing the CM10 Jelly Bean ROM. Almost everything works on this Jelly Bean ROM except camera and camcorder. This isn’t a deal breaker for me as I don’t use my Tab 10.1 camera/camcorder often and rather benefit early from the Jelly Bean upgrade. In time, working camera and camcorder should be coming but if you want to just try out the ROM, just make a backup ROM of your current ROM, not a big deal.
Try it out and let me know what you think of this ROM!
Before you try installing this CM10 Jelly Bean ROM, you will need to upgrade/install your CWM Recovery to the latest version 5.5.0.4!!! (Also if you not rooted, you can simply install CWM and install this, no root required.)

Been running this ROM for 3 days now, its the best ROM I’ve had on my P7500. Very smooth no problems.

Hi, I’m from India and using a p7500 too..
There is no defect at all installing the ics rom..
I thought that my camera will not work after upgrading my tab from honey comb to ics but no problems till date..my tab is working perfectly on ics…
Anyhow I dint download the rom from this website..I got it from SamMobil.com
Register in Sammobile and select your region as Italy…download the rom and instal it following the instructions…
If you taking you tab to the Samsung store you can unroot it and get the honey comb version reversed which is also instructed in this website..
I bought my tab from the UK so had to get the European version of ics…
If you bought you tab from India, I don’t think you should follow these methods, simply go to a Samsung outlet and get it upgraded…

Okay so I installed the ROM and I get my mouse to work with the USB adaptor, but how did you get it to pick up a flash drive??
Download es file explorer and enable root navigation.reOpen it after enabling root, and go up a level. Then open folder titled usbdrive.

Hi max..just wanted to all if there is any way to hack data usage and make it consume less 3g..I’m using a p7500 and here in India 3g usage is way beyond reasonable budget…it totally pisses me off when I activate my 3g for 4GB usage n can’t use it for a week…
What is max limit for none extended powered USB storage?

Thanks for all your hard work. I just flashed this rom and I am really impressed by the speed difference. Just one question: After I flashed and connect my P7500 to my pc it does charge but it does not seem to pick it up in order for me to move files between pc and tablet. Any ideas?

Hi, I installed the CM10 on my Galaxy Tab P7500 (3G), everything worked just fine, until the first start (btw, thank you for the great tips/hacks/mods/a.s.o. on your website)… I get the same bootloop (it doesn’t go to Android is upgrading screen) for about an hour now .. I tried restarting it but it does the same thing.
Please give me a hint on how to get it to work.

For all those with USB problems, enter settings select storage and there is a menu in top right to select PC storage mode.

Well JP I do not know GALAXY TASK 14 but I can assure you I have never seen my P7500 perform as fast as it is currently with JB.
Backup your old ROM and give this one a go, you can always go back if you don’t like it and it will give others also some good comparison and reference if you do.

Camera is no big deal, as I never use it on the Tab either…
Have installed JB, So far it is extremely responsive and fast
I like it alot, A few apps have forced closed and I cant seem to get All Share (dlna.apk & divx.apk) working on it, but have only used it for a couple of hours
Will keep messing around with it though

Before this rom i had also task 14 full. For me it is the fastest honeycomb rom. The gb rom is much more fluid and faster comparing to the task rom. I am also waiting for Tasks jelly bean rom.

Anyone found a video player that works with this ROM yet. Tried the stock samsung gingerbread and mobo player but no good.
Just tried dice player and works OK, any others?
Act 1 Video Player seems to work fine. I really like it because it “resumes” wherever you left off. Maybe others do this too but I haven’t tried them (and have no reason to – I can only watch one at a time).

Donno if anyone has problems with Flash but I did. Finally got is working with Skyfire but couldn’t get it to work with FF Beta or Dolphin (although generally Dolphin seemed wicked fast).

Thanks. It must have been in the fine print. I’m sure the one I installed from the play store was higher. I guess since I won’t install through the store it won’t notice it’s there and nag me to upgrade.
General observations;
ADW Launcher doesn’t play well with the ROM.
The USB charging DOES work from any charger but if you look in the settings when connected it doesn’t say it’s charging.
Same ere, also you can clear notifications by swiping them individually, but the ‘Clear’ button is missing.
I also cant get a sound icon in the Notification Drawer, there is airplane mode, wifi, auto rotate, brightness, notifications, settings…….but no sound
Under settings/System/Notification drawer, there is a toggle sound option, but I have found this does nothing in the drawer

Currently stuck in boot loop for the past 35 minutes. Used to run older versions of CM9 and frequently got 3900 – 4100 on quadrant so hoping this stacks up, assuming it finally boots. Seeing other people are stuck in boot loop, any ideas on what can be done?
35 minutes is waaaay too long, try reflashing
wipe cache and everything else as well before flashing
Fixed boot loop problem, had to format cache, dalvik cache, format /system and factory reset then flash the ROM again and all is up an running now, thanks

I have done factory resets and install gappz.zip but nothing works .

Marcel, try this version of Gapps, it’s the version I used from an older version of the CM10 rom and it worls great
Did you format/system and factory reset, flash the ROM and then Gaapz? If it was a clean install everything should work. I put all my apps back with App Backup & Restore and problems were negligible.
Max, I get an error [ assert failed: getprop("ro.product.device") == "p4" || getprop("ro.build.product") == "p4" ] when installing the cm10 rom.

List HOW you installed it (the steps you used) then maybe someone can spot what is wrong. For starters, do you have a P7500 or P7510 and did you use the right ROM for what you have? Had the same problem. Do the Odin step, I got the error cause I skipped the Odin step. Note : Used ROM manager to upgrade the CWM. Works like a baby..
I reinstalled the CWM 5.5.0.4 (http://droidbasement.com/galaxy/recovery/cwm5/p4wifi/5/recovery.tar.md5) and try to flash with the same file cm-10-20120726-UNOFFICIAL-p4wifi-sig.zip. This time it was OK!

Originally i have used CWM 58xx, so have re-installed both files after nstalling CWM 5504, and i have not deleted cache partition and Dalvik cache 5 times. And re-installed both cm10 and gapps after that again. Still the tab “hangs” at the cyanogen mod 9 blue guy boot screen.

Yesterday I updated from stock 3.2 to the official Samsung 4.0.4.
I had it all backed up with titanium backup, but I don’t know what I did wrong: when the tab came up, all the data and apps were gone.
Now, I plan on upgrading to CM10 once the front camera starts working
and I have just watched your excellent video on how to do it,
but can you please specify and direct me exactly to the part where I need to click in order for me not to lose all my data and apps again?

I think I read somewhere to not use TB to restore the apps but maybe that was another ROM.
I have TB and run it regularly in case something happens to my existing devices but if flashing a new ROM I first backup with App Backup and Restore and an SMS Backup & Restore and a fresh sync of my contacts to Gmail. Then I do a NANDROID backup . On my phone I forgot to do the text backups before a flash, restored the NANDROID, backup the texts and then did the wipe/factory reset (again) reflashed the new ROM and was able to put pretty much everything back on the phone. It took a little while to get everything back but at least it wasn’t hours and hours.
Curious to know how the battery is on this new ROM. what about Google Now? I read somewhere that it doesn’t work and that we shouldn’t try to run it because it’ll make the device unstable.

gapps file. Somehow i cant download 100% the file.
Used this ROM for a few days now. Like the UI speed but not as fast as my galaxy nexus jelly bean. Much slower. Stock browser is terrible. Not buttery at all. Chrome, Opera and Dolphin browsers are the same or worse. In sum, stock Galaxy Nexus jelly bean beats this ROM hands down or in soccer term, its 5-0. I know its not fair to compare mobile jelly bean with tablet but i’d expect the same.

Anyone have any luck getting hdmi output to work on this rom? Everything else is working flawlessly for me, but when I connect to HDMI the tablet switches to alarm clock mode and there is no output on tv. Not really a deal breaker for me as I barely use this feature except while on vacation, but am curious to know if anyone else has same issue.

I love this new ROM. It’s by far the best one I’ve tried for my Galaxy tab 10.1 p7500. Even surfing the web has become way better on both WiFi and 3g. As for battery life, I haven’t measured it, but it seams at least as good or better. I’ll be glad when mobo fixes their video player to work with jelly bean. Besides that all of my apps work great and I give this ROM a big two thumbs up.

This is great Dave. Thanks. I never appreciated how fun a tablet camera can be. I get my wife’s hand-me-down tablets and then flash the latest ROM. The camera doesn’t work and don’t know what I’m missing. This is great with the added bonus that my wife won’t be able to say, “right – you might have the latest ROM but the camera doesn’t work”. lol

Try installing Camera JB+ from the market its better than the camera app included with the rom.
What makes it better? Is it worth $2.00?

OK. fortunately I had the Galley apk and was able to uninstall and reinstall. I suggest that anyone who uses this make a backup of the Gallery app which contains the camera.
How did you uninstall it as I dont see that optoin when opening all apps in the settings?
What gallery.apk did you use then to reinstall it, just copied one from a ICS phone or….?
You need to have a root uninstaller becasue it’s a system app. I have Root Uninstaller Pro. This also has a feature called APK Installer which has multiple apk auto-backups (which I never told it to do). One of them was the gallery so I reinstalled it. With Google I found a carp load of them here http://www.filecrop.com/gallery-3d-android-2.1.html but not an exact match for the one I have. The one I have is gallery3D_1.1.40000.apk
If my camera/galley was still hosed I’d give one of the 1.1 one a shot or the ones that just say gallery.
If you have a crash with the gallery app and the camera won’t open again clear data for the gallery and it should fix it.
Dave is right. Thanks. Deleting the data from the Gallery app fixed it easily. My problem was missing the fact I has to slide left to get to all the system apps. Learning something new every day keeps me looking forward to tomorrow.

hi max, im sure u must be tired of seeing my name all over your sites but i do kinda follow you as you always have the coolest stuff for samsung devices (which i have) but i have experienced some trouble with my galaxy s2 on salman 4 ics where it wont download via carrier network in the google play store, major bummer. I am now using my tab10.1 as a wifi hotspot for that, and that is why i cannot root my tab. Also just got my hands on galaxys3 and dont see much difference with 4.0.4 and 4.1. My tab is on honeycomb 3.2, was updated two days after getting it……. Will that be fixed??

I love this ROM!
But I do have one issue every time I switch between my home, Work, Church networks I need to do a reboot before it will connect to the new wifi.
Is anyone else had this issue? Any ideas on how to fix it?

I don’t have to reboot but sometimes I have to turn off wifi and then turn it back on or it doesn’t want to scan. It’s a minor inconvenience. Rebooting would be a far bigger inconvenience. I just looked (I usually don’t pay attention) and I’ve been up 90 hrs and switching hotspots, although my phone is naturally the strongest.

If you refer to my previous message then yes the patch is working and I can use Skype
But latest Skype version is a story of its own and with each update it gets worse…..
It was still not an answer to my question…..is camera difficult to program as all new ROM almost dont have it or for some reason prio on it is lowest?
Guys, camera app was working fine for back camera. What do you do if you inadvertently switched to front camera and the camera app crashes? I’ve rebooted a few times and can’t get it to work again.

Sorry guys, worked it out. From Settings / Apps / All / Gallery… selected Clear Data and Clear Cache. Then camera continues to work okay as long as you don’t switch to front camera. Looking forward to the fix for this in future release…. everything else works really well.

Since camera was not working I removed the gallery app but even that I noticed that stock player was not playing divx files. I reinstalled some other gallery app I found googling….but how can I get the old one as its was better looking?
Any idea how to fix stock player to play divx files?
I know MX player can but when browsing in gallery the experience is so much better, especially for kids who see big thumbnails.
No backup? Titanium or App Backup and Restore? Googling “Stock Gallery apk” gives lots of results. You could try the ICS one. It will either work out it won’t and there are JB ones out there. I guess it’s not in the patch?

But I don’t have google maps. Is anyone else missing maps? I used the gapps link provided in the tutorial here.
You’re correct. It’s in the app store. I installed it to see if it worked (I never used it) and it showed my location as “Manhattan Psychiatric Center”.
No, the play store doesn’t have google maps. You probably downloaded a different maps program. This is a standard gapps application. Does anyone know why it’s not on my 7500 (3g)?
I love Jelly bean but I use the google maps app all the time.

It looks like the read thing to me. Not all gapps are created equally and devs seem to take out things that they don’t use or consider unnecessary.

Yeah it’s weird, in the google play store when I search for “google maps” it never shows the app. I didn’t think to search on the fully qualified app name.

I have managed to reflash and get everything working except for the USB charging via laptop desktop etc. It does show the lightning bolt on the battery but when I go to settings the battery says it is discharging and I can watch it drop.
Any Ideas? Even tried the super user command

But i did try that. The weird part is that when connected to wifi i can see vodafone is being received but when there is no wifi, there is no vodafone signal. This tells me that is does receive some sort of data..

Wow, this is such an improvement over galaxy task. I love it. Some issues that do not bother me that much are the front camera and the light sensor not working.
However, one thing annoying me is the email app not syncing with my hotmail account. I really don’t know how to fix it.

I need help. I tried this wonderful ROM and everything (except the camera) was working fine. In a weak moment, I thought of restoring the old backup I had to 2.3.
Something went wrong and the system was not restored and now, i don’t have any system installed and no .zip file in the tree structure to re-install JB!!
I can connect the tab to my laptop and Odin gets contact, but it doesn’t appear as a USB storage device and thus, I can’t send any files to it.
Please help me getting my tab back to life? I don’t care which OS it is.. I just want it back…How can I proceed?

I can access CW mod but I don’t have any kind of backup as it seems. However, I have a backup and ROM zip file in my computer. But i don’t know how to send the files to the tablet. As I said, it’s ok to connect it to my computer and Odin gets contact.. bu I can’t send files to it as it doesn’t show up as a hard drive in my computer.

Do a Nandroid backup in CWM (Google it before asking please). This is a very basic action that you need to know how to do if you are flashing ROMs.
Guys, can I do this update and then install linux on my galaxy tab 10.1? Should it be working fine after? Is that a good idea to do this or I just stick to the Honeycomb and install linux on it?
How do you integrate Linux on a tablet? I have used Linux for years with a keyboard and mouse but the only UI I have heard of for touch-screens is Active Plasma and I haven’t gotten into it (yet).

Here’s a link for a working JB with working backside camera (they also have a GSM enabled phone support you can flash separately for the modem). I have a 7500 so not sure if Jelly Bean build works on 7510 (WIFI only) but probably does. Check out the article.

This is a link to a download. Does it just flash over the JB ROM of “this” forum (which would be nice and easy) or is it a complete factory/wipe install which IMO wouldn’t be worth it since everything else with “this” ROM is incredibly stable for me.

Yes, I run it as described. So not jb, it’s ics!
I can do all kind of calls. There is only one issue: the voice is not transmitted to and from any bluetooth headset. The headset works, I can control the call (eg hang up) and I can hear the dial-buttons, but not the voice itself.
I have not tested with jb, or the module with jb.

Absolutely. I have been using this ROM for 2 months – today! I have Titanium Backup scheduled weekly. The ONLY problem I seem to have is that if I turn off the wifi hotspot it might not find the hotspot later without a reboot. Or so it seems – I really haven’t paid THAT much attention to it.

I’m confused (read old and can’t remember) which is the front camera. I can take a picture of you but not me. If you try to take a picture of yourself the camera will be crashed until you delete the Gallery cache as I recall. There was an earlier link about JB with both cameras working but the link was bad and I couldn’t tell if it was a patch or a full flash and the poster didn’t reply or fix the the link. I’m happy anyhow. If you don’t like it I’d like to hear why. I’m still excited that on a 10.1 1 I’m running JB and it’s so stable.

Has anyone figured out how to put Touchwiz (for a tablet) on this? I got Touchwiz Galaxy S III working but everything was too small for the 10.1 format. I’m working on it but if anyone has already done it …..

Sorry but I don’t remember. I think I found a phone apk or zip. Unfortunately my tablet was stolen over the weekend (I forgot it in a theater – hard lesson learned) so I can’t look in my root directory. The problem was that it was for a phone and not big enough for the 10.1 tablet. Touchwiz wouldn’t have given me what I thought it would so I stopped looking into it.
You might want to try ADWLauncher EX. It is the one I have been happy with even though in an earlier post I said it didn’t seem to play well with this ROM. It eventually settled out and was great.

Rohan, I know you addressed this to Max but if I may? – Do a Nandroid backup of your current ROM and then follow the directions from the OP exactly. If you don’t like it you can just restore ICS from the Nandroid backup. I have done this many times. Btw, if it goes the way it did for me, I seem to recall I had to flash this JB ROM a couple of times before everything was working right and I’m not sure where the camera fix is any more becasue the link to that no longer works.

tab is made backup on honey comb. it upgraded to ics and again backup, upgraded to jelly and again backup.
if i put honeycomb backup and restore,
wil everything be same as like a old tab.
The nandroid backup should return the device to whatever state it was when it was backed up. That’s why it’s always important to have the nandroid backup which is accessed before the ROM loads.
ya i used it many times at hard situations.
my doubt is, i oc my tab in ics and made a backup, now, im on jelly.

Everything works smooth except gtalk. When you start an audio chat the app crashes.
I am having so many problems on my p7510 after the jelly bean rom.
What are the steps to go back to the rooted ICS.
force closes on mostly everything. The tablet is almost unuseable now.
Any help/steps would be greatly appreciated.
Oh, I thought I did a backup of my system but when tried to go back to it, the file was corrupt.

Don’t know how to go back but are you sure you used the correct ROM for your device and did you do a full factory reset and cache wipe? I never have had one force close and there are a lot of people who have contributed to this thread that is works great for. Nothing personal but are you positive you followed the instructions exactly?

Try to lets it cache the video a few secs….. and the tabs on official version usually become unstable while trying to watch video in 1080p since the resolution of the tablet is nowhere close to 1920*1080

Dude the google location service use the geolocation of your ip address to tell you in which neighborhood you are and of course it won’t be as precise as the gps since it is GEOLOCATION USING IP ADDRESS

I am running cm10 on my p7500 for a month now. Only problem was rear camcorder not working properly. I overcame this by installing lgcamera app free from play store and using its camcorder. Now having the perfect video quality as well.:-)
I tried to reverse back to ICS stock with the harp backup I made. But boot keeps on in flashing Samsung logo but never proceed. What can I do? Pls help.
FWIW, I Odin’d CWM 5.5.0.4 and then CWM flashed CM10 JB 4.1.2 w/gapps. Everything seems fine but ad hoc networking was not working for tethering to my phone. However, the latest version of WiFi Tether for Root Users 3.2b2(https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.googlecode.android.wifi.tether) supported infrastructure for my phone (Samsung Droid Charge) so tethering now works great.
