If you are still on ICS or Jelly Bean with your Galaxy Tab 10.1, it’s probably the time to consider updating to latest Android 4.4.4 + root.

For this purpose, you can try Omni ROM, which is closest custom ROM you will find to stock Android 4.4.4.

Also, Omni ROM brings several features to the table including customization options for your status bar, quick settings, navigation bar, Power Menu, and some more. You will also find Active Display, OmniSwitch, and some more.

For tweaking performance, you can use Omni ROM’s built-in Performance menu to overclock up to 1.6Ghz. However, I find Tab 10.1 running the fastest at around 1.4Ghz.

Also for UI, you can try using Nova launcher (free on Play Store), then set all animations to “super fast” in Nova settings.

Coupled with those settings, your Tab 10.1 should now be flying compared to ICS or Jelly Bean.

I know many of you probably have your Tab 10.1 in your closet somewhere. If that’s the case and you have kids, definitely upgrade to Android 4.4.4 and let your kids have an extra tablet to play with. As for me, I am re-using my Tab 10.1 to replace my Note 10.1 as Live view for my Canon 7D DSLR (hence why I updated.)

But I will try to update this site more often when I get a chance and also will post some tutorial guides for newer Tab 2/3 soon! (I don’t have Tab 2 or 3 but surely can post some tutorials for you.)

Download Android 4.4.4 Omni ROM for P7510/P7511

Download Android 4.4.4 Micro Gapps

IMPORTANT: YOU MUST UPDATE YOUR CWM TO LATEST CWM v. or TWRP TO LATEST TWRP v. or higher to install KitKat ROMs.  If you don’t know how to do this, see How to Install KitKat ROM on Galaxy Tab 10.1!

To install ROM, reboot into recovery, backup ROM (have at least one backup!!!), wipe data/factory reset, install ROM, install Gapps, and reboot.  That’s it!
(If for some reason you end up in a bootloop, reboot into recovery, go to Advanced Wipe for TWRP or Mounts & Storage for CWM, format/wipe /system, then re-install ROM.)

    Hi Max,
I need a favour ,can you tell me from where I can get Chainfire3D,for galaxy tab p7500.
I tried to download it from a lot of site but none is working….
Plus sometime it crashed my rom & and I had to reflash rom. …
So if you can help me then it will be a great favour for me ..
    Thanks in advance…

  25. Juanita Lanaux says:

I want to verify before installing…will this work on the sgh-t859? It is a Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 4G wifi. I don’t want to brick it, so I am asking first. :()

  26. Ray says:

I am very confused…this rom is a ” nameless HOMEMADE” then their is an “OMNI HOMEMADE” then their is later versions of “OMNI NIGHTLY” all for p7500 and they are all different and mostly incomplete and not worth using.
I am not been nasty but could you explain what is going on here and which of these is the active one?
I flashed nameless HOMEMADE which was reasonable, then I flashed a later version ONMI Nightly and it has different features and lacks many interface stuff which makes it quite unpleasant to use.
Will stick with CM 10.1 until something good pops up for our trusty P4…if ever

Thanks for the effort you are putting in to keep this great tab going…will never buy another.

  27. Michael says:

I have installed omni several times, but no matter what I do, play store force closes when I try to install any apps. I have tried the mirco, stock and 4.4.3 gapps. And because of the sd card issue on kitkat, I am kind of in a pickle now, because clockworkmod doesn’t see my nandroid backup and I can’t get back. Any suggestions? Thanks

  33. Viv says:

First off – worked like a charm, no issues installing whatsoever, so a MASSIVE thank you!

  44. André says:

This ROM is definitely a great piece of work. Many thanks for making it available.
However, there is one small issue: round about one day after flashing (Gapps Micro)
more or less all app installations from Google Play ended up in an error message
saying “package file invalid”. Does anyone face the same issue? Is there a solution

    • Fabio says:

I’ve the same issue. After several wipes I discovered that the reason is the limit of the memory. In fact if you uninstall some app you are allowed to install new apps…Honestly I don’t know why it happens because OMNIROM doesn’t make any HD/SD partition….I ask for the same support….Max can you help us?

    • Shreyash says:

Guys i faced the same problem last night. All i did was reflashed the rom with gapps standard and DID NOT change the runtime to ART. i guess art runtime is not supported with this ROM..

  45. prabhat says:

after updating my Tab(GT-P 7500 3G) is not detected on PC…. Please help.

  46. MarkCJ says:

Hi – I’m trying to install Omni but get an error message. I’m wondering if it’s because I don’t have the newest CWM. I have v. and your page states that I need v. Yet, on the ClockworkMod site the newest version I see for the Galaxy Tab 10.1 is I also don’t see any version of TWRP available for the Galaxy Tab 10.1.

Is there a version of TWRP or a newer version of CWM available for the Galaxy Tab 10.1?

    • Martin Krcho says:

  48. Navin says:

I’m getting “package file is invalid” and I’ve tried reinstalling GAPPS but to no avail. The only thing that’s worked is uninstalling some apps and then I can install one or two more without the error. 71. Roosh says:

Everything is fine until I hit reboot after extracting done in TWRP. It’s stuck in loading screen for hours and hours. I have tried your suggestion:

I have done the advanced wipe/ systems numerous times, still gets stuck on bootloop. I have spend 3 days on this and can’t get it working. I even tried using Odin 3 to unroot or at least go back to original ROM, but ODIN gets a fail!! every time.
