How is this different from just connecting to your smartphone running as a WiFi hotspot?
Can you do the copying with the root explorer instead?
FYI, there is a simpler way to do this as explained in xda forum that doesn’t requires adb. All you need is ES file explorer and rooted. Here is the guide:

btw, it works for 10.1 as well, not just 10.1v
Great work! Worked perfectly on my wifi only Galaxy tab 10.1.
I am wondering tho… how are you editing the wpa_supplicant file? I am having trouble with that on a different tablet. I want to be able to edit the file myself. Can you tell me how you edited yours please?
Can someone help me out. I am trying to connect my galaxy tab to my galaxy s2 phone. Both of them are rooted. I download the zip onto my tablet and open using android zip. I then use rootexplorer to access the wpa file. I copy the new one and mount rw to the old wp file. When i went to turn on the wifi, i got an error. I replace the old wp file that came with the tab and the wifi works but no adhoc. How can i get the new wp file to work on my tab.
Does this process work on honey comb3.2 as well? for some reason it does not grant me Super User!!! PLEASE ADVISE
